(KMOV) – A drug shortage is a problem that affects hospitals, pharmacies and patients and close to 300 drugs are on the short supply list.

The drug supply shortage is five times the number that it was in 2005 and includes everything from antibiotics, chemotherapy drugs and medicine to treat high-blood pressure.

The FDA says there is a shortage in drugs for many reasons including manufacturing and quality problems, discontinuation of certain drugs and delays in production.

Pharmacists say that the best thing customers can do check if your medicine is in supply is to call the pharmacy right away.
