(KMOV) -- Attorneys for the family of Sheri Coleman have filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Christopher Coleman and Joyce Meyer Ministries.

Complete coverage of the Chris Coleman trial

Sheri Coleman and her two sons were found strangled to death in their Columbia, Illinois home in May 2009. Sheri's husband and the father of her two sons is currently on trial, accused of murdering all three.

The wrongful death lawsuit was filed on Wednesday as Coleman's murder trial is nearing an end.

The suit was filed in Monroe County by attorney Antonio M. Romanucci. It claims that Joyce Meyer Ministries failed to recognize that Chris Coleman was a threat to his wife and two sons. Chris Coleman worked as the security chief for Joyce Meyer and sought marriage counseling from his employer.

The lawsuit claims that Joyce Meyer Ministries should have known Coleman was a threat to his family because he was sending threatening messages to his family from a laptop computer and cell phone that was issued to him by his employer.

According to the suit Coleman was also traveling extensively for his job and he was being accompanied by a woman who was not his wife, with the knowledge of Joyce Meyer Ministries.

Coleman is accused of having an affair with that woman, Tara Lintz. The lawsuit alleges that Coleman developed a ruse through Joyce Meyer Ministries to murder his family so that he could be with his mistress.

Romanucci, said, "This tragic murder would have been preventable if Joyce Meyer Ministries had responded to the threats and the extramarital affair and warned Sheri appropriately.”
