(KMOV) -- On Tuesday, News 4's Marc Cox spoke with Pastor Ron Coleman, the father of convicted killer Chris Coleman.

Complete coverage of the Chris Coleman trial

Ron Coleman is the pastor of Grace Church Ministries in Chester, Illinois. He just received his first letter from Chris Coleman since he arrived at the Pontiac prison facility in Pontiac, Illinois. Earlier this month, Chris Coleman was convicted and sentenced to life in prison for the murders of his wife and two sons.

Ron Coleman says his son maintains his innocence and that, according to the letter, Chris is "doing well" and they "are treating him excellent."

Pastor Coleman says that when Chris first arrived at the prison, he was given a 90-minute psychiatric evaluation and "they recognized he was not what they thought he was."

Chris Coleman told his parents Ron and Connie, "God is sufficient, and he's taking care of me."

Ron Coleman says he believes his son will become a speaker and will share the strength that God has given him "when he gets out" of prison

Pastor Coleman says the family "is in the process of appealing, because our son is innocent."

Cox also spoke with one of Chris Coleman's attorneys William Margulis. Margulis says the appeal is being worked on, but he does not have a time frame yet as far as when it will be filed.
