(KMOV/AdAge.com) -- For the first time in almost 20 year Anheuser-Busch will not have the top two beers in America. Trade publication Beer Marketer's Insights is reporting that Budweiser is no longer the number two beer in the country. Coors Light has taken over.
AdAge.com reports that analysts began predicting that Coors Light would top Budweiser for the second spot last year. Bud finished 2011 down 4.6 percent in shipment, which was it's slowest decline in years. That wasn't good enough as Coors Light gained 0.8 percent.
At year's end Budweiser had shipped 17.7 million barrels, Coors Light shipped 18.2 million barrels.
According Beer Marketer's, Coors Light has steadily inclined over the last 5 years rising 9 percent. Where as Budweiser has fallen more then 60 percent since it's 50 million barrel peak in 1988.
Anheuser-Busch's Bud Light remains the nation's top selling beer.
