Freedom Group Inc. makes Bushmaster and Remington rifles and ammunition, including one of the guns used in the school shooting in Newtown, Conn. On Tuesday its parent, Cerberus Capital Management said it would sell its controlling stake in Freedom Group because of an expectation of stricter gun control rules.

Here's a look at Freedom Group International, based on a filing that covered 2011:

Headquarters: Madison, N.C.

Brands: Bushmaster, Remington, and DPMS.

Guns sold: 1.1 million long guns.

Annual revenue: $775 million, including firearms revenue of almost $426 million.

2011 results: Net loss of $6.7 million. It has lost money in each of the last five years except for a $54 million profit in 2009.

Ownership: 95 percent of Freedom Group's shares are controlled by Cerberus, the rest by its directors.
