(KMOV) - Many elderly Americans become unable to keep up their home, and are forced to move from the place they've lived in most of their life.
News 4 Angels is a community outreach effort of KMOV-TV that focuses on charities making a difference in our community.
The program and a volunteer organization called, Rebuilding Together were able to help keep one elderly couple in their own home.
For the past five years Marion Maxey's life has revolved around her husband Bill, so it’s understandable that home repairs slipped through the cracks.
"The house wasn't falling in, but there were things that made it uncomfortable to me," Maxey says.
She decided get assistance from Rebuilding Together. The organization helped rebuild Maxey’s railings, ceilings, window panes and other repairs.
According to the organization’s Executive Director, Lynne Rajani it's all in a days work.
That work however doesn't come cheap.
"This is done at no cost to the homeowner, we have to purchase all of the lumber, the paint the glue," Rajani says, "we want to make sure they're living there safely, independently and safely. "
What seemed to be a few tasks around the house meant the world to Maxey, who so badly wants to keep up the home she and her husband moved in to more than 35 years ago.
“I just feel like a weight has been lifted, lots of tears, happy tears,” Maxey says.
