Students having a blast at explosives camp
06:01 PM CDT on Friday, June 22, 2007
(KMOV) -- In the summer, kids go to band camps, cheerleading camps and church camps, but no where is there a camp like the one in Rolla, MO where the kids are having a blast.
Yes, literally.
High school students from as far away as Hawaii and Egypt are attending the University of Missouri-Rolla's explosives camp.
They're taught how to blow up all kinds of objects.
Organizers say it prepares teens for careers in mining engineering.
They learn about underground blasts and military explosives.
In the process they blow up frozen chickens.
The weeklong camp costs $450.
