(KMOV) - They call themselves members of NYC, and it has nothing to do with New York City.
They are members of the Nazarene Youth Conference.
Thousands of them are using their religion to improve St. Louis.
Teenagers, are currently working on building new homes, in the 4900 Blocks of Harney, Lillburn and Ashby in North St. Louis.
They are some of the 9,600 high school students, who have come from across the United States, and Canada, for a 6-day conference in St. Louis.
They are all members of the Church of Nazarene, which is a Christian and Protestant religion.
Their mission is to build houses for Habitat for Humanity, and to help low income families
Representative for NYC, Simone Finney says, “When you get out and work and listen to others, you get a new perspective, and you live out love in action.”
Organizers say it usually takes Habitat for Humanity one or two months, to build two homes. With the help of NYC members, they will complete two houses in a week. NYC members are also working on 29 public schools, and one community center, in St. Louis City.
They are painting, moving furniture, and fixing them up.
They estimate it will save the city public schools about $150,000 in labor costs.
