ST. LOUIS (KMOV) -- Homicides in a north side ward of St. Louis are down a tremendous amount from last year at this time.

Earlier this year it was reported that over a dozen surveillance cameras were installed in that area.  An alderman from that St. Louis ward credits those newly installed cameras as part of the reason for the drop in crime.

Through September of 2011, only two homicides had been reported in that ward, down from the 10 reported in that same time last year in 2010.  It is also a slight decrease from the three homicides that were reported in 2009.
