COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMOV) -- Columbia police are currently in search of a man that posed as a Salvation Army bell-ringer and stole money.

Police believe the man stood by a kettle outside of an Old Navy store, held out his hand and asked for money.  However, instead of placing the money into the kettle, the money went straight into his pocket.

No one is entirely sure how much money the man got away with.  The Salvation Army says to always look for bell ringers with the red aprons that have the group’s logo.

All true bell-ringers will have you put your donation directly in the kettles.
