(KMOV) -- This year’s holiday shopping season looks to be giving the economy a big end-of-the-year boost with dates such as Black Friday, Super Saturday - and now what retailers are calling, "Mega Monday."

Although final numbers are still being tallied, the National Retail Federation is estimating sales are up 3.8 percent this year, bringing in a record $469 billion.

Sales on this year’s day-after-Christmas “Mega Monday” are expected to trail only the previously mentioned Black Friday and the last Saturday before Christmas, “Super Saturday.”

In order to allow for an even greater boost in sales, some stores opened their doors as early as 7 a.m. in anticipation of the crowds.
