CHEETAHS

Did you know that the cheetah can run at speeds of up to 70 miles per hour? Its flexible spine allows the speedy cat to have a long stride compared to its size. And its claws are like cleats - giving great traction as it runs.

ASIAN ELEPHANTS
The male Asian elephant has a hearty appetite! An adult eats about 300 pounds of grass, leaves and bark every day. And these massive animals can weigh up to 12,000 pounds!

RHINO
Did you know that a rhino's horn is not attached to its skull? The horn actually grows from the rhino's skin and is made up of keratin fibers, the same material found in our hair and fingernails!

OSTRICH
Did you know that the ostrich is the largest and heaviest living bird in the world? An average ostrich egg weighs more than 3 pounds! An ostrich is unable to fly, but it can run up to 40 miles per hour!

HIPPOS
Did you know that hippos spend most of their time in the water? With its eyes, ears, and nostrils on the top of its head and nose, the hippo can hear, see, and breathe while the rest of its body is underwater.

ANTEATER
The anteater has a long narrow body, bushy tail and snout. It's curved claws are used to dig up ant hills or termite mounds for food. Its long tongue is sticky and can slurp up to 30,000 insects in a day!

GIRAFFES
Did you know that giraffes are the tallest land animals? A giraffe has the same number of neck bones as you but, its neck can grow longer than 6 feet! And a giraffe's tongue can be 20 inches long!

VITAMINS
Some animals at the St. Louis Zoo get a daily vitamin. Rhinos get Vitamin E. And sea lions never forget to take their vitamins because their keepers hide them in the fish they eat.

WALKING STICK
A walking stick is an insect with a long body that closely resembles a small stick or grass stem. Its excellent camouflage protects it from predators, and a walking stick can re grow a lost limb!

NAKED MOLE RATS
Have you ever heard of a naked mole rat? These naked, wrinkly rodents live entirely underground. They use their large jaws to dig tunnels and they can run just as fast backwards as forwards!
