Man shot to death in East St. Louis
06:07 PM CDT on Saturday, September 13, 2008
EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. (AP) -- Police say a 24-year-old East St. Louis man was killed when an unknown gunman fired several shots through the front window of his home.
East St. Louis police Chief Michael Baxton Sr. says David Kerby Jr. was asleep in his bed when the shots were fired early Friday morning.
Kerby's home was directly across the street from East St. Louis High School. Baxton says several other people, including young children, were in the home at the time, but no one else was injured.
St. Clair County Coroner Rick Stone says Kerby was killed by a shot to the head -- one of two bullets which struck him.
Kirby was the 12th homicide victim in East St. Louis so far this year.
