First tigers moved off eastern Mo. property
10:04 PM CDT on Saturday, August 16, 2008
ST. LOUIS (AP) -- Owners of an eastern Missouri animal park began moving animals to Oklahoma as part of a plan to shut down the farm after a tiger attacked a volunteer.
About 20 big cats were loaded up on Saturday for transfer to a facility in Wynnewood, Okla.
Owners of Wesa-A-Geh-Ya in Warren County said Friday that eight lions, four or five tigers, four Arctic wolves, a bear, a cougar and a leopard will be transported to the G.W. Exotic Animal Memorial Park.
They said homes have not yet been found for about 30 other exotic animals.
Volunteer Jacob Barr had part of his leg amputated after the attack in which a tiger jumped a fence on Aug. 3 at Wesa-A-Geh-Ya, about 70 miles northwest of St. Louis. The tiger was shot and killed.
