Archdiocese, parishioners sue St. Stanislaus

06:13 PM CDT on Wednesday, July 23, 2008

ST. LOUIS (AP) -- The Archdiocese of St. Louis and several parishioners are suing St. Stanislaus Kostka parish, seeking to regain control of the Polish-heritage parish.

The lawsuit, filed Wednesday, seeks to have the parish revert to its 1891 bylaws, which would give the bishop authority to name the pastor and the parish corporation's board.

The move also would allow the St. Stanislaus corporation to continue maintaining control of its assets.

The plaintiffs include Bishop Robert Herman, who was named administrator last month after Archbishop Raymond Burke accepted a Vatican appointment, and three former board members of St. Stanislaus.
