11:49 AM CDT on Wednesday, April 30, 2008
EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (AP) -- A Metro East man is accused of strangling his wife's cat.
Madison County prosecutors charged 46-year-old Marc Macios of Collinsville with animal torture and aggravated cruelty to animals.
Collinsville police Detective Sgt. Rich Wittenauer says Macios told investigators he killed the cat because it had distemper and he was putting it out of its misery.
Neighbors called police after the dead cat was found in Macios' front yard.
Macios is jailed in Edwardsville in lieu of $5,000 cash bond.
