St. Louis, MO (KMOV) - Now that the shutdown is here, what should you do if you have an accident or a breakdown on a crowded stretch of highway?
The Highway Patrol says if you are not hurt pull off the roadway.
The city of Town and Country has set up special accident investigation areas.
If you have a breakdown or accident on Interstate 44 during your commute there's no margin for error and no shoulder.
Police say if you are uninjured and can move your car do so, if not tow truck drivers will be standing by.
Tow truck services such as Mo-Jo's will be first responders for incidents on 270, and 44 with trucks positioned strategically beginning before dawn.
Town and Country police have also teamed up with Mo-DOT to keep traffic on the move, and Mo-DOT has also added pavement pads that could save lives.
Mo-DOT will place signs on each of four accident investigation sites within two weeks.
They are near the intersection of 270 and 40 positioned off the highway.
