09:21 PM CDT on Tuesday, July 25, 2006

MOUNT VERNON, Ill. (AP) -- Two men and a woman are charged in the robbery and killing of an affluent real-estate developer and philanthropist whose body was found earlier this month in his secluded home near this Jefferson County community, authorities said Tuesday.

Christopher Watkins, 21, of Mount Vernon was arrested Monday on charges of felony murder and robbery in the shooting death of 53-year-old Randy Farrar, whose body was found July 5. Farrar was shot twice in the head at close range, the Jefferson County sheriff's office said.

A judge also has approved arrest warrants charging Krysta Donoho, 21, and Demetrus Cole, 28, of Mount Vernon, with felony murder and robbery, the sheriff's office said.

Investigators believe Donoho and Cole fled the area after the shooting and may now be in the St. Louis area, the sheriff's office said.

Watkins remained jailed here Tuesday evening. His bond was set at $5 million, the sheriff's office said. Bond also was set at $5 million for Donoho and Cole.

Jefferson County Sheriff Roger Mulch declined to provide specifics about the case, which he described as "still very complex."

"We're going to be very meticulous about the whole case," Mulch said, adding that releasing details "would be very detrimental to the case. When more details are released, you'll understand why."

Messages left Tuesday with Gary Duncan, Jefferson County state's attorney, were not immediately returned.

Farrar is the son of the late Fletcher Farrar, founder of the former Farrar Oil Co.

The family has been active in the community and has donated for decades to many civic and charitable organizations.
