Family accuses Ferguson Police of abuse
10:15 PM CDT on Wednesday, July 12, 2006
KMOV
(KMOV) - The city of Ferguson is refusing to discuss allegations of police abuse against a group of young adults and grade school children.
The family is asking the FBI to investigate.
Children as young as 11 say police entered a house without a warrant and sprayed some of them with mace as they were coming home from a party across the street.
All of them were detained and one parent was arrested.
Hospital records show an 18-year-old suffered blunt trauma to the chest.
He says a female officer beat him, and then held him in jail for more than eight hours.
His family members say they were forced to pay $900 to get him out of jail so they could take him to a hospital.
The Ferguson police chief has not returned our calls.
A city spokeswoman told News 4 "We are doing our research. We don't have it all together."
The spokeswoman also told News 4 "We can't talk to you if we don't have any details."
Members of the family say they have asked the FBI to begin a criminal investigation.
