Benefit set for student allegedly attacked by former teacher

COLUMBIA, Ill. (AP) -- A St. Louis-area high school is planning a benefit for one of its students to help cover some of her family's expenses since she was attacked and left for dead in a Belleville, Illinois, park. KMOV Ashley Reeves
Columbia High School will host a five-kilometer run or walk June 23rd on behalf of 17-year-old Ashley Reeves of Millstadt, Illinois.
Former Freeburg High School teacher Samson Shelton of Smithton, Illinois, is accused of kidnapping Reeves and trying to kill her.
Authorities say Reeves was found 30 hours after she was beaten and left in the park. She's now being treated at a pediatric rehabilitation center in Missouri.
