05:08 AM CDT on Wednesday, June 10, 2009

(KMOV) -- Police responded to a tip about a burglary in progress at the home of a Centreville, Ill. police officer who was killed last week.

Officers surrounded the home in the 9800 block of W. Main St. in Belleville for several hours late Tuesday night and into Wednesday morning.

Police say they did not seen anyone inside the house, but are proceeded with caution because they were concerned that the suspect could have gotten ahold of Lt. Greg Jonas' weapons.

Jonas' widow told police that she walked in on the suspects. She was able to exit out of the house and call police. Police say they found no signs of a burglary

Jonas was shot and killed last week while he was on patrol.
