Crews attempted entry, but intense heat and heavy fire conditions drove them out and into defensive positions.
The weather conditions, wind, ice, and freezing temperatures, did create some issues for firefighters.
The fire went to two alarms and took firefighters over an hour to get under control.
One firefighter was injured when he slipped and fell on the ice; he was taken to the hospital with minor injuries and was released Tuesday afternoon.
The family was home at the time of the fire and was able to escape without injury.
Damage is estimated at over $450,000.
Two adjacent homes sustained minor heat damage.
Investigators determined that the fire was accidental in nature, most likely caused by an overloaded electrical outlet in the garage.
