In fact, MoDot engineers said at one point there was an accident per day on the ramp from Ballas Rd., joining the two lanes of traffic from Highway 40 onto I-270 north.

Residents say the problem starts with a stop sign, which makes you come to a complete stop before you merge into traffic.

Recently crews have made some changes, and since then there has only been two accidents in the past couple of weeks.

Crews added rumble strips along the ramp. They placed a message board on the side of the road and painted a stop bar sign on the ramp.

Crews said the stop signs were added because the ramp was changed from one to two lanes so more vehicles can get on I-270.

MoDot engineers said despite the recent changes there is nothing they can do about the stop signs. The stop signs could go away by late November or mid-December. Until then, police officers will be monitoring that area and drivers just need to be careful.
