ESL football players pay tribute to injured teammate
10:38 PM CDT on Friday, October 10, 2008
ST. LOUIS (KMOV) -- An East St. Louis Senior High School football player who was taken from the field in critical condition last week attended his first therapy session on Friday.
Demond Hunt Jr.’s first physical therapy session consisted of leg lifts and pushups.
Hunt, a junior, was taken to SSM Cardinal Glennon Children Medical Center after he complained of difficulty breathing during a game against Collinsville High School.
Doctors determined Hunt had suffered a seizure due to bleeding and swelling on the brain.
Also on Friday, his teammates wore small number 13 stickers on the back of their helmets as a tribute.
East St. Louis, the top-ranked team in the St. Louis area, will probably be fine without Hunt, but this is about much more than football.
Hunt listened to Friday night’s game against Granite City from his hospital bed.
