St. Louis board says mailing misleads voters
06:40 PM CDT on Friday, October 10, 2008
ST. LOUIS (AP) -- The St. Louis Election Board says a political mailing is misleading voters into thinking the board supports Jay Nixon for Missouri governor.
The Democratic Campaign Committee of St. Louis sent out unsolicited absentee ballot applications. They include a Nixon endorsement and the Democratic Party symbol.
The Election Board says angry or confused voters believe the mailing is from the board rather than the political group, despite a written disclaimer on the mailing. The board says it did not send out the mailing, does not endorse candidates and does not send out unsolicited absentee ballot applications.
Nixon campaign spokesman Oren Shur said the campaign had not seen the mailing. The Democratic Campaign Committee of St. Louis said it planned to issue a statement.
