Suspect charged after police chase ends in deadly crash

(KMOV) -- A motorist is dead after being caught up in a police chase early this morning.
Erick Russell, 24, of the 4600 block of Newberry Terrace, was hit by a car fleeing police on Grand avenue at about 12:41 a.m. Thursday.
Police say Brentwood officers attempted to pull a car over inside their jurisdiction but the car led officers on a chase and eventually they lost sight of the vehicle.

Shortly after, Charlack officers spotted the vehicle and attempted to get the driver to pull over, but the driver again refused to stop. Charlack officers followed the car into city limits but also lost sight of the vehicle, police say.
Authorities said the car was located again by Air 1, a helicopter operated by a St. Louis County police officer. The officer saw the wanted vehicle pull over and at least one occupant get out before the car continued on.
The officer tracked the vehicle until it crashed into Russell’s car traveling northbound on Grand, police say. Russell was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police say they saw a man get out of the car after the collusion and he was later found hiding in a vacant parking lot at the 1700 block of Bacon.
Markel Davis, 19, was was taken to the hospital and then taken into custody.
Davis was charged with 2nd Degree Felony Murder, 1st Degree Tampering with a Motor Vehicle, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, and Leaving the Scene of an Accident.
A search of the vehicle the suspect was driving, revealed a loaded .380 caliber semi-automatic pistol lying on the passenger seat, next to where the suspect had been seated.
A St. Louis City Circuit Court Judge set a $250,000 cash-only bond.
Davis also has an unrelated case pending in St. Louis City Circuit Court for a previous arrest for Receiving Stolen Property.
The car the suspect was driving was stolen from Sunset Hills, police say.
Police are still looking for the other suspect.
