Proposed smoking ban for St. Louis is on hold
06:10 PM CDT on Friday, July 10, 2009
ST. LOUIS (AP) -- A proposal to ban smoking in St. Louis bars and restaurants won't be taken up again until the fall.
Supporters of the bill failed to move it out of committee before the Board of Aldermen's summer recess, which starts Friday afternoon.
The development was good news for Joe Finn, who runs Pat's Bar and Grill in Dogtown. He says his revenue will drop if people aren't allowed to smoke at his establishment.
One nonsmoker, John Grissell, says it's time for St. Louis to kick the habit. He says quitting smoking or eating better are hard to do, but have benefits for people.
