01:59 PM CDT on Thursday, May 21, 2009
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (AP) -- Flooding from the Mississippi River is causing headaches for some motorists in southeast Missouri.
The state Department of Transportation is advising drivers to avoid several state roads closed by floodwaters. Those roads include portions of highways 77 and 80 in Mississippi County, portions of Highway 162 and Route WW in New Madrid County, a portion of Route N in Scott County, and a section of Route E in Perry County.
The National Weather Service expects a crest 8 feet above flood stage Saturday morning at Cape Girardeau, where downtown is protected by a flood wall.
