(KMOV) - America's largest retailer made a major donation with more than 50 truckloads to the nation's food banks this week.
The deliveries arrived one day after News 4 Investigates exposed how Wal-Mart wastes huge amounts of safe and edible food.
Chief Investigative reporter Steve Chamraz explains Wal-Mart's new donations do nothing to stop the company's wasteful ways.
Give Wal-Mart a break. They are no worse than K-Mart, Target, or any other retail stores. The same problems there are the problems at the other stores. Retail as a profession stinks. If I had to work retail, it would be Wal-Mart. I worked there for 10 years, but was lucky and got an office job. There are all kinds of complaints there also. The grass is always greener on the other side.
There are too many people who are in need of food...never throw out food.....give it to the needy..and hungry children
SHAME on WALMART!
It's shameful that Wal-Mart can't donate that food to a food bank or homeless shelters. Aren't donations of any monitary value a write off at the end of the year?
I use to work for McDonalds and that one threw food away also. Not only shamefully waistfull but stingy and wrong. Thank you.
not right
Wal-Mart does not throw out food unless it is outdated or otherwise might pose a health risk. Unsellable food merchandise that is edible is donated through the "Feeding America" program to local food banks.
don't blame them or anyone else except the Health Dept's. this is their rules & regulations!!!
I think it's terrible. there are too many food banks that need food and too many starving people in this world
why do they not donate it?
As I work in the Grocery Department at Walmart, We have been told this is a Huge Health & Safety Issue as well a a precaution for Consumers.
I absolutely hate Wal-Mart. In my home we do not use the word hate since it is such a strong word unless we truely from the depths of of heart mean it such as..I hate petafiles, rapist, etc. Wal-mart is so bad to it's employees and to the U.S. Throwing out food that could go to the poor just goes to show how selfish they are and ignorant.
It's dispicable!! They should be donating them to food pantries or the needy, not the trash cans. What has happened to America? Wake up!! I haven't shopped at Walmart since I heard about this & I don't plan to either. It's sad because Walmart is right down the street & I used to do all my shopping there. They've definately lost all my business & I'm spreading the word to everyone I know. I hope they go bankrupt!!
with the way times are now, I think they should donate to food banks in their stores areas. Thats like having the cure to cancer and just throwing it away in the trash cause no one can afford to buy it...To me walMart is no different than the politicians in washington if they continue to throw out food..
We have alot of people that would love to eat it.
I think its dumb... I can't believe that they can't donate the "old" food. I work for wal-mart and I fully understand why they can't donate, but I thinks its just all a big waste. Not just food its everything from Dog food, to candy, to people food, deli, bakery, anything that comes open whether its packed or not we have to throw it all away.... this is a good reason why all of our landfills are getting too full... Guess they didn't think about that....
SHAME ON THEM....It can be a tax deduction and benefit the communities. What happened to helping the community like they claim they do.
I have worked in a Walmart dairy for 3 years. They throw it out rather than donate food because their distributers will reinburst them with the empty package. Walmart is stil making money off expired food that way.
I think there should be a regular pick up by local food banks.
They should have been doing this months back. I am really disappointed in Wal-mart, I hear so many "bad" things about them. (Sometimes their prices are not "that" good) I am glad to hear this food policy has changed.
With so many people needing food and shelter, I find this incomprehensible. You mean to tell me they can't find any homeless shelters, food pantries and soup kitchens, to make a charitable donation? Plus, they should be able to take a write off on their income tax.
Who or what is responsible for this foolish decision?
