CHENOA, Ill. (AP) -- An 8-year-old central Illinois boy has died in a head-on crash between a pair of go-carts in his front yard.

Authorities say Ethan Smith died Thursday night after the go-cart he was driving crashed into another go-cart driven by his mother's boyfriend, Aaron Slager, at their home in Chenoa, about 30 miles northeast of Bloomington.

McLean County Sheriff Mike Emery says Slager rounded a tree and apparently couldn't see Ethan before he drove over the little boy's go-cart.

Coroner Beth Kimmerling says Ethan was pronounced dead at a hospital in Normal late Thursday night. An autopsy is planned.

Emery says no one has been charged in the boy's death.
