Previous: Teen skateboarder dies after being struck by car in South County
Mehville, MO (KMOV) - There will not be any charges filed against the driver who hit a skateboarder along Lemay Ferry Road late Friday.
Brendon Wiles
At the time of the accident, Brendon Wiles, 13, was walking along the busy roadway with some friends.
Early Sunday morning, the middle schooler passed away from his injuries.
On that stretch of Lemay Ferry there are not any sidewalks.
Catherine Oberbeck lived nearby on Green Park Road for 33 years and says she's always wondered why there aren't any sidewalks.
She says, on Friday it was so dark there’s no way anyone would have seen the boy.
One man, Tim Meyer, says the 13-year-old's death proves how unsafe its to skate anywhere other than a skate park.
Brendon Wiles' grandmother says the family is not vengeful about the boy’s death and says right now, they're just looking for the strength to move on.
Today, friends of Brendon brought blue balloons to the intersection of Lemay Ferry and Green Park to say goodbye to a dear friend.
The 13-year-old's family tells News 4 that a funeral will be held at the South County Hoffmeister Chapel Thursday at 10 a.m.
The viewing will be Wednesday from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the same location.
There will also be a trust fund set up for the family, but that is still pending.
