(KMOV) -- A 48-year-old man is in critical, but stable condition after he was hit by a car on Interstate 44 in south St. Louis Sunday night.
Police said the man was walking on eastbound I-44 near Kingshighway Sunday night around 9:45 p.m. when an oncoming vehicle hit him. He was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries.
Authorities said they had received calls around 9:30 Sunday night about a man walking along the highway, but by the time police officers found the man, he had already been hit.
Investigators are trying to determine why the 48-year-old man was walking on the interstate.
The vehicle that hit the man is described as a Toyota Camry. It is not clear if the driver stopped.
