(KMOV) – The lack of snowfall and warm temperatures has created a salt surplus for the Illinois Department of Transportation.

Last winter, IDOT used 58,000 tons of salt and have only had to use 400 tons this year.  IDOT has not even had to attach their plows to the trucks this season.

The Missouri Department of Transportation is using the money that usually goes to fueling its trucks this time of year to spend it on fixing the pavement.
