(KMOV)—Crews responded to a two-alarm house fire in Cottleville early Saturday morning.

Firefighters arrived on scene just after 1 a.m. to find a home at 538 Highfield Drive, fully engulfed in flames.

According to reports, the homeowners were asleep when their 10- 12 year-old grandchildren noticed smoke coming from the garage door into the kitchen. The children woke up the homeowners and everyone was able to evacuate safely. Two family cats did not survive.

No injuries were reported.

Investigators have deemed the fire accidental, believed to have been caused by smoking materials in a trash can in the garage.
