(KMOV) – A Madison County coroner said a Metro-East man killed last month in an accident on Route 111 in South Roxana, Ill., was drunk and texting at the time of the crash.

Coroner Stephen P. Nonn reports toxicology reports reveal Bradley A. Werts, 22, of East Alton, had a blood-alcohol level of .183, over two-times the legal limit.

Cell phone records show Werts was text messaging around the time of the crash.

Werts was killed after he failed to recognize a “T” intersection.

“The descendent was familiar with the roadway and it is possible that the message texting could have been the source of his inattention to the “T” intersection," Nonn said in his report.
