(KMOV) -- An Illinois man is facing charges after police allege he sold drugs to another man, ultimately resulting in that man's overdose death in July, 2011.

Jacob Nelson, 31, of Dupo, Illinois has been charged with distributing a controlled substance resulting in death. Investigators say Nelson allegedly sold Jeremy Moskodauz, 36, heroin resulting in his overdose in Columbia, Illinois. If convicted, Nelson could face a maximum sentence of life in prison.

Nelson is also charged with maintaining drug-involved premises and two counts of unlawful possession of a firearm by a user of controlled substances.

No trial date has been set. Nelson is in custody pending a hearing set for Friday.
