(KMOV) -- From the day she was born Ray Gardiner and his wife wondered and worried about what was making their daughter, Claire.
A New Zealand doctor identified Costello Syndrome in 1987. Less than 200 people in the world have been identified with the disorder. It’s so rare it took years for Claire to get her diagnosis.
Costello Syndrome alters physical features but can also affect the heart, a child's ability to eat and cause mental retardation.
