Matt hasn't always been the weather fanatic that he is today. Growing up in St. Joe, he was so scared of thunderstorms that he had to abandon a 3rd grade sleep-over to go back home after a strong storm developed over his friend's house. His friend's mother called Matt's Mom to exclaim, "That boy is just a mess! You might want to come get him."
As time passed, that fear grew into fascination His interest in weather led Matt to the University of Missouri in Columbia. He studied meteorology there beginning in 1995, earning his Bachelor of Science degree in Soil & Atmospheric Science in 1999, along with a minor in mathematics. He remained at Mizzou for another two years, working toward a Masters degree.
Between classes, Matt cut his broadcasting teeth as a weathercaster and meteorologist with KOMU-TV 8. That led to his first full-time meteorology job, morning meteorologist with KRCG-TV 13 in Jefferson City. Matt left mid-Missouri in 2005 when he jumped at the chance to join the staff of KMOV-TV.
In addition to serving as meteorologist for News4's morning newscast "Awake", Matt joined "Great Day St. Louis" in 2009 as co-host alongside Carol Daniel every weekday morning from 10:00 to 11:00 AM. This was an entirely new adventure for him, but he enjoys the show and is excited to work with the incredibly talented Great Day crew.
The American Meteorological Society has honored Matt with their "Television Seal of Approval." Matt is an active member of both the American Meteorological Society and the National Weather Association. His on-air talents have been recognized by the Missouri Broadcasters Association with awards for "Best Weathercast" and "Best Children's Programming."
The Chambers family resides in the Metro East, although they make frequent trips back home to St. Joseph to visit family. You might run into them at the St. Louis Zoo, The Magic House in Kirkwood, the local movie theater, or any number of other fun destinations across the bi-state area. They enjoy spending time at the Lake of the Ozarks. Matt and Stephanie are also active in their local church parish.
