My last blog entry was about the not-so-pleasant topic of temper tantrums, so I thought this week, I'd blog about one of the more fun aspects of being the mother of a toddler - having a little helper. My son Jude (20 months) jumps on any opportunity to help. Before bed, he always puts his cup in the sink and helps me turn out the lights, he’s glad to put his blocks and toys in their appropriate bins, he even helps me stir when I’m baking. Give Jude a job to do and he does it gladly. I just love the look of pride on his face when he feels like he’s helping out.

A couple of weeks ago, I was reading about toddlers and helping out around the house. Turns out, this is the perfect time to teach your little ones to be little helpers. Might as well start them young, right? From what I’ve read, at this age, they love to be given a task that they can complete. It gives them a sense of independence and importance. Just make sure you give them a lot of praise for all of their help and be sure the task is age appropriate. Here is a list of some suggestions from one of my favorite websites, babycenter.com
