NEW YORK (AP) -- He is already a basketball legend in Los Angeles. And if things roll the right way, there's a chance Magic Johnson can also help restore the legacy of major league baseball in LA. He is a member of one of three groups that have been approved to bid to buy the Los Angeles Lakers from current owner Frank McCourt. Johnson is part of a group that includes the former president of the Atlanta Braves and Washington Nationals, Stan Kasten. Another group includes others who have been major players in pro sports ownership. Under an agreement reached by MLB and McCourt in November, McCourt is to select the winner by Sunday. No matter the final price, the total will be a record for a North American sports team.
