State rep says he wants resignations at U of I

CHICAGO (AP) -- The chairman of the Illinois House's Higher Education Committee says he wants the president of the University of Illinois system and some trustees to resign.
Democratic State Rep. Mike Boland of East Moline made the statements Sunday at a news conference in Chicago in response to reports the university's flagship Urbana-Champaign campus keeps a list of special interest applicants who may receive preferential treatment.
Boland says he wants President B. Joseph White and any involved university trustees to resign. He also wants Gov. Pat Quinn to appoint a panel to investigate the list because the university shouldn't investigate itself.
A spokeswoman for the University of Illinois says resignations aren't expected.
