Former superintendent's sentencing delayed
04:27 PM CST on Tuesday, November 18, 2008
CLAYTON, Mo. (AP) -- The sentencing of a former suburban St. Louis school superintendent is delayed until Jan. 5.
Former Riverview Gardens superintendent Henry Williams was scheduled for sentencing Friday. He pleaded no contest in September to two counts of felony theft and three counts of tax fraud.
The delay was sought because Williams could not immediately begin paying more than $100,000 he owes in restitution.
Williams is 67. Authorities say he converted more than $25,000 in district funds for personal use. He was also accused of double dipping on travel expenses and underreporting his income for three years.
He could face up to 37 years in prison.
Before arriving at Riverview Gardens, Williams was a superintendent in Syracuse, N.Y., Little Rock, Ark., and Kansas City, Mo.
