(KMOV.com) -- Most schools are out for the summer, but some children continue to be victims of bullying.

Dr. Erin Shannon, an expert in holistic psychotherapy, said letting a child vent is the first step in solving a bullying problem.

"The best thing is to let them talk and talk," she said. "Once they have it all out, they may actually come up with their own solution."

After talking it over, Shannon said parents can work with their child as a team to develop an anti-bullying strategy.

"The most important thing you can do is follow up," she said. "Everyone is busy. You don't want to get shuffled to the side."
