Kurt Warner joined Jim Hanifan and me on Rams Rush Hour tonight and said he hopes to split time with Matt Leinart Sunday. Warner sounds as excited as I've heard him in a long time. He's made a major contribution because he's finally getting some quality protection. His numbers---71% completion rate, three touchdowns and no interceptions and a q-b rating of 125.1.
These are not the same old sorry Cardinals. They've taken on a new personality under first year coach Ken Whisenhunt. They can now play smash mouth football thanks to Whisenhunt and offensive line coach Russ Grimm. And not just on offense. They've shut down some quality running backs in the first four weeks. Last week, Pittsburgh's Willie Parker averaged just 1.9 yards per carry. He entered the game leading the league in rushing. They've played four teams that like to pound the ball yet rank 11th in rushing defense.
By the way, Kurt is kicking off the seventh annual Warner's Warm up winter coat drive this week. New and gently used coats can be dropped at various locations throughout the area from the 7th to the 21st. Monetary donations are also accepted. More info is available at kurtwarner.org.
