Kyle Lohse hit hard in his second straight start today. The good news is the light hitting Pirates will be in town next week. That may give him a chance to get back on track. The Pirates are hitting .254 as a team (the Cardinals are hitting .281). The bright spot today: two more home runs for Ryan Ludwick. Don't know how you take him out of the line up right now. He's leading the team in home runs and batting average.

Cant get enough of watching the action at the 17th hole at the Players Championship. It's the nastiest 140 yard par three in history. About a dozen more balls hit the water today. I hope the wind picks up over the weekend. Last year, 50 balls hit the water in round one and 94 got wet over the four days. Ernie Els is as mild mannered and even tempered as any golfer I've ever seen and today, after taking a triple bogey six, he said they should blow up the hole. He was serious.

I used to live for the Celtics--Lakers rivalry in the 80's so I'd love to see that match up in the NBA Finals. I believe the Lakers will make it. I think they're the best team in hoops right now. Until tonight I was doubting my Celtics. But, they blew out Cleveland in game two. What Kevin Garnett has done with the Celts is amazing. He IS that team.

Yankees right hander Mike Mussina won his 255th game tonight. I've known he's been good. I didn't know he's been that good. He'll might make the Hall of Fame despite not having any 20 win seasons. That shows you how consistent he's been. He's won 13 or more games in 14 of 16 seasons.

Arizona right hander Brandon Webb improved to 8-0 today. He's just the third pitcher in the last 50 years to start 8-0 with an ERA of less than 2.25. Pedro Martinez did it in 1997 with Montreal and Fernando Valenzuela did it as a rookie with the Dodgers in 1981. Valenzuela's numbers that year are staggering. His ERA in his first starts was 0.50 and he completed all 8 starts with five shutouts.
