The Cubs come to town with a pulse that's faint at best. Had they won Wednesday and Thursday, there might be SOME cause for concern. But even if the Cards take just two of three, the magic number will fall to five. Two wins by the Cubs wouldn't really help keep them alive but at this point, for the Cardinals, it's more about playing good baseball heading into the postseason.
With Smoltz, Carpenter and Wainwright pitching, I feel good about the impending elimination of the Cubs. But, I'd feel better if we start seeing the timely hitting that the Cardinals displayed in the month of August and the first week of September.
