The Cardinals got rained out of what appeared to be an easy win this afternoon and now will have to try it again on Tuesday night with Kyle Lohse taking on Kip Wells. That's right that Kip Wells.
In the past few weeks Cardinal Nation has gotten their hopes up for the season because of the winning streak during the final weeks of spring training. My belief is that this is just a mirage. I am still of the belief that this team still has some fatal flaws that will be exposed over a 162 game season.
The fact remains that their starting pitching staff is suspect at best on April 1st. There is the hope that Mulder, Pineiro, Carpenter and Clement will all be back at some point but I think to expect miracles out of this group is a long shot at best.
I don't think the lineup is strong enough over a long season. There are still way too many question marks with Duncan, Ankiel, Schumaker, Izturis and whoever is going to be playing second base this season. You have to think that one or two may produce but not enough of them will in my opinion.
At the end of the day I think we are looking at about a 75 win season and if it wasn't for Tony La Russa squeezing wins out of this team they would probably be about a 65-70 win team.
The best part about sports is you never know. You never know and they might surprise us all but I am not believing.
