(KMOV) - Illinois is one of the 35 states that already bans texting while driving. Missouri places restrictions on drivers under the age of 22.

News 4 found out if you get caught texting and driving in Illinois, it could cost you more than 100 dollars. Troopers are on the lookout day and night and its a problem on both sides of the river.

In Missouri, texting while driving is banned for drivers 21 and under. In 2009, the Missouri Highway Patrol issued 15 tickets to those drivers. In 2010 that number jumped to 67. So far this year 43 tickets have been given out.

In Illinois where it's against the law for anyone to text and drive, almost 1,300 tickets have been issued since January 1st of last year.
