ST. LOUIS (KMOV) -- A north St. Louis police chief was suspended after sources say he fired his pistol inside the police department.

Calverton Park Police Chief John Moore was off-duty, serving a two-week, unpaid suspension.  Sources say he fired his gun at a telephone book in his office.

When I asked each of the four village trustees, none denied the allegation but simply referred me to the village chairman.  Jim Paunovich is keeping quiet about why the board voted to suspend the top cop, but he does say that the incidents leading up to Chief Moore's suspension will be investigated by police.

Calverton Park is no bigger than a large subdivision.  All seven of its officers, including the chief, are state-certified.

"The police chief has been a good chief, but there were some situations where we had to deal with, and we dealt with it, and that is about as far as we can go," Paunovich said in response to if anyone was in danger by the chief’s actions.

The chief's suspension ended at 11 p.m. on April 9 and a board member says he is still the chief, but leaders refuse to explain the situation.
