Friends and colleagues of fallen St. Louis Police Officer David Haynes will pay their respects today.

Officer Haynes was killed in a multi-car traffic accident last week while he was trying to catch a burglary suspect.  It happened at the intersection of Kingshighway and Oletha.  Now, that suspect is in jail, charged with burglary, fleeing an officer and second-degree murder.

Haynes was 27 years old.  He spent one year on the St. Louis police force.

The Iraq War vet leaves behind a new wife and his mother.  They'll greet fellow mourners at Kutis Funeral Home on Gravois in St. Louis today between 3 and 9 p.m.  Mass for the officer will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Cathedral Basilica.  Immediately following, Officer Haynes will be laid to rest at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.

In honor of the fallen officer, Don Brown Chevrolet and Lee's Chicken are collecting donations for Backstoppers, which helps families of those who die in the line of duty.  The event is all day this Wednesday at Don Brown Chevrolet on South Kingshighway.  If you can't make it but still want to donate, go to backstoppers.org.
